Bruce and Paul

It's the diversity, the atmosphere, and the location that's most important about the Maxwell Street Market. We have a good time and we earn some money. It's one of a kind.

Bruce and Paul, vendors, interviewed, July 1994

It's the hatred I see in the city today that bothers me. Maxwell Street is an example of non-hating. It is a great meeting place, a great institution. You meet lots and all kind of people. Everyone was equal. If you were willing to spend a buck, people were glad to see you there. People need it to survive. Most people who came from that area did pretty well.

Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, who grew up on Maxwell Street, from an interview July 1994
