Five Upcoming Events in December to Save Maxwell Street
Tuesday, December 1. Noon to 2:00PM. Picket at City Hall, Clark St. entrance. If they stop us we will picket across the street in Daley Plaza. The media will be there. Bring signs. Save Maxwell Street, Save the vendors, Save the Hot Dog Stands, Save the businesses, Save the people, Save the Blues.
After the picketing, we are invited go inside for the public hearings below.
Tuesday, December 1. 2:00PM. Come to the formal Roosevelt-Union TIF hearing before the Community Development Commission. Tuesday, December 1, 1998 at 2:00PM, City Hall, City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor. Stopping this TIF will save the old buildings. Bring signs. Let your voice be heard!

Friday, December 4. UIC Great Cities Winter Forum: Civic Engagement in America: Trends and Challenges. Chicago Illini Union, 828 South Wolcott in the Chicago Room, December 4, 1998. 8:30AM to 4:30 PM.. More info is available by calling 312-996-8700 or by visiting the Winter Forum website.

Sunday, December 6. A Blues Benefit for 77 year old Maxwell Street Blues legend Johnnie Mae Dunson. This will be held at The Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, near Elston and North Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood. Festivities will begin at 5PM. Ms. Dunson has been evicted from her home and she is suffering from a heart condition. The suggested minimum admission is $10.00, which gets you live blues and roots music, vegetarian chili, burgers, and brats. There will be a cash bar, a silent auction, and lots of interesting people.

Sunday morning, December 13. A presentation at Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 875 Lake Street, Oak Park, Illinois. Jimmie Lee Robinson sings and Steve Balkin lectures about the importance for saving Maxwell Street and the tenets of Maxwell Street Theology. At 10:00AM and after the Sunday service.
