Little Scotty's Black History Blues Jam and Family Reunion Awards Night, Feb. 25

Community activist and Chicago Bluesman, Clarence 'Little Scotty' Scott, has organized and is hosting a Blues jam and awards night for Black History Month. It will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2001 from 4PM to 10PM at the Blues club, East of the Ryan, 914 E. 79th Street on Chicago's South Side, near 79th and Cottage Grove. You can get there by taking the Dan Ryan expressway to the 79th Street exit and go east about 4 to 5 blocks. A free parking lot is next door. The phone number of East of the Ryan is 773-874-1500.

Tickets are $20 Advance and $25 at the door. A free buffet will be served.

Says Steve Balkin of the Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition, "Lill Scotty has plenty of soul and that's what this night will be filled with. He knows suffering from the early civil rights days and he also got the spirit and strong ties in the community. He is there on the front lines trying to make Chicago a better place. Scotty was a fixture at old Maxwell Street. He sang with them all, the grassroots guys and the stars too. Every time I hear him sing, I feel the power, the power of the Blues. It moves me and I can't stop tapping my feet. He is real, one of the best."

Killer Ray's band will be the house band for the evening. He is a guitarist and drummer, formerly a drummer for Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy. Also featured will be Little Al and Johnny Camel and his salute to Sam Cook; Norma Jean portraying Mahalia Jackson; and Little Scotty with a tribute to Otis Redding. Everyone in the house is, of course, invited to sit in.
