Chancellor Broski,
Beale Street....Bourbon Street...Places that are so culturally and musically important that their mere mention brings to mind the great cities of Memphis and New Orleans, respectively.
Maxwell Street is such a place in Chicago. In addition to being the hub of the Chicago blues scene for generations, Maxwell street is widely recognized as a historical melting pot for people of all cultures. Surely The University of Illinois at Chicago will recognize the importance of preserving this vital area, both for its historical significance and also its commercial attraction.
As young radio producers, and more importantly blues fans, we can assure you that members of our generation treasure such artifacts and seek them out as a means for connecting with the past. Let us preserve this for future generations as well.
As an institution of higher learning, The University of Illinois at Chicago should take this into studied consideration.
Sincerely,
Kyle Kelly and Dave Herda
Producers "The Chicago Blues X-plosion!"
