Chancellor Broski,

I am a Chicago native temporarily residing in Seattle, finishing my masters at the University of Washington. I am also a graduate of the University of Illinois in Urbana. I share many Chicagoans' distaste for your institution's plans on Maxwell Street, for I am a fan of not only the Blues, but of the diverse and rich cultural heritage which the Maxwell Street neighborhood provides to Chicago.

Although Seattle is a great city, what I miss the most about my home town is such heritage. Chicago is full of culture, history, and roots that we cannot overlook for mere private real estate ventures. From my perspective in this city, one much younger and not with the advantage of such historical neighborhoods as Maxwell Street, I beg you to reconsider your plans. I ask you to consider the importance of Chicago's neighborhoods, of the Blues, of the history of the many races of people who settled in that area of Chicago, and I implore you and the University of Illinois to integrate the neighborhood's historical richness into your plans. I am, as I said, a student, and I know that students appreciate such heritage and would embrace a University which appreciated it as well.

Sincerely,

Annie Tully
