Dear Sir,

It has come to my attention that UIC plans to destroy an area of Maxwell Street that is of historic significance. The area is culturally significant because of it's blues music heritage. This area was the stop off point for many of the blues performers arriving in Chicago from Mississippi. Some of these include Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Bo Diddley, Houndog Taylor, and Robert Nighthawk. As an avid blues fan and musician it has always been in my plans to come and visit Chicago, which I consider the birthplace of modern blues. It would be very sad to me if I found the Maxwell St. area had fallen prey to the bulldozer. I ask that you consider preserving the area and make use of it's historical significance as an educational tool. Cultural history, to me, is as important as political history, and it is my hope that this area becomes promoted for it's cultural contribution to the world of music.
