Dear Chancellor Broski:
As a member of the community, I am writing because I am deeply concerned about the future of Maxwell Street.
In Chicago, and all over the United States, everyone looks forward to visiting Maxwell Street. Most of my childhood and all of my adult life, my friends, family, and forefathers have always dined and shopped in this traditional neighborhood, and we still do. We were always able to find tremendous bargains on food, clothing, furniture, and last but not least, that very delicious and famous Maxwell Street polish sausage, at the indoor stores, and outdoor open vendored marketplaces.
During "The Good Ole' Days" this landmark area was very inspiring, and instrumental in bringing everyone together in all ethnic groups to sing, play, and listen to the blues.
I, Pervis Spann, am requesting that you preserve a portion of Maxwell Street, not only for memorial purposes now, but for our new generations to come.
Please take into consideration that this has been, and is still a historical landmark that need to remain in this area.
Sincerely yours,
Pervis Spann, Owner
