I would like to add my name to the list of those who hope to "save Maxwell Street".

As a graduate student at the University of Chicago back in 1966 - 68, I spent some time down at the Maxwell Street Market and it made a deep impression on me which I have never lost. I am certain that the visits to Maxwell Street played some role in my deciding to form a record company which would devote itself to American music culture. Today Rounder Records is 27 years old and probably the most active company in the world working with American roots and traditional music.

I sincerely hope that what remains of the Maxwell Street Market (I was very sad a few years ago to visit and see all that remained) can be preserved. In Boston, the Haymarket area was endangered years ago, but it has been preserved and now remains an active and even vital part of the central city.

Sincerely,

Dr. William G. Nowlin, Jr.

Director, The Rounder Records Group
