Dear Chancellor Broski,

I am writing you regarding your University's plans to destroy Maxwell Street.

While I understand that progress is important and that we cannot always preserve the past, I feel that it is important that areas like Maxwell Street be preserved for its historic significance to the world of music. Just about every form of music in America (and also many forms around the world) can trace its roots to the Blues. Its cultural importance and impact cannot be denied. Great Chicago Blues performers such as Otis Spann, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, etc. are constantly recognized as major influences on artists in the music fields of Country, Gospel, R & B, Jazz, Rap, Zydeco, and of course, Rock & Roll. Also, the great city of Chicago is known the world over as the major home of the Blues. It would be a shame if this most important area of Chicago, that is known world wide, is destroyed.

Therefore, I would please ask that you reconsider tearing down this historic district and instead create a Maxwell Street Historic District much like Beale Street in Memphis.

Thank you sir for your time.
