As an alumnus of the Campus, BA '72, MSW '77, I believe that the preservation of the Maxwell Street area is no less important to the history of urban blues music than was Hull House to the history of the development of Social Work as a distinct philosophy and profession. I sincerely hope that the University will recognize it as such and do all in it's power to recognize and maintain the culturally unique and important landmark as was done with Jane Addams' Hull House on the campus. Citizens of the community were displaced to make room for the university and it would truly be shameful to that citizenry to eliminate such a vibrant and living symbol of their heritage and contribution to our country.
