An excellent new essay about Chicago's Maxwell Street has recently been placed on the Internet. It is by Yale History Professor Max Page and is part of the 3Cities research project based at the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham in the UK.

• On your upper left, click on 'Chicago'. Unfortunately, you will then have to wait for some very slow intro graphics. Eventually, the words Maxwell Street will appear along with the names of other essays on Chicago.

• Click on 'Maxwell Street'.

• Eventually, you will get to a page with the title: Maxwell Street and the Crucible of Culture. There is a picture of Maxwell Street on that page. If you move your cursor to that picture, an outline with links will appear that can guide you though essay. You can get back to that outline menu by clicking 'Maxwell Street' at the bottom of the page.

The text is profound and the pictures are great. I hope you enjoy the essay.
