UIC Students and Faculty To Protest UIC Administration

The concerned students and faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago will gather on Tuesday, September 21st at 3:45pm, in the Lecture Center Plaza at UIC just next to the Chicago Circle Center. There we will protest the University's lack of balance regarding matters such as Affirmative Action and its reckless disregard of diversity, community and service to the Chicago land area.

The University of Illinois at Chicago continues to mistreat its constituents. Even after being penalized by the National Institute of Health for conducting improper human testing, UIC is still abusing its power.

September is the time when campus celebrates Unity Month. The festivities focus upon the virtues of diversity and multi-culturalism. This year the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences , Stanley Fish, has invited renown anti-Affirmative Action specialist Dinesh D'souza as the major keynote speaker for unity month.

Though UIC claimed to treat its human research subjects well, they reneged on that promise. While UIC has an urban mission to serve the community, it is now displacing residents and community from the Maxwell Street area, Abla homes, and the Pilsen neighborhood. As UIC ensures the City of its support of diversity, it brings in academics who don't value diversity to major speaking events and without providing alternative views.

The protest is being organized by Students for an Urban Mission, the Minority Student Coalition, and the Agape House Christian Ministry. For more information contact Jackson Potter or Maria Camargo at (312)-492-6576 or by email : jpotte2@uic.edu.
