As a blues radio presenter and fan I am disturbed to hear of plans to redevelop the Maxwell Street area. My understanding is that these plans do not take into account the historical and cultural importance of this area as a cradle of urban blues music. I strongly urge you to incorporate a Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District into the University of Illinois's plans for commercial redevelopment of the Maxwell Street area.
