Dear Mr. Broski,

I'm writing to voice my concern over the possible demolition of what was once the Maxwell St. market area.

No, I've never been to Chicago, and no I've never been to the Market. But I'm a Blues fan who has read of the passing of many great men and women through the market as their initiation into the big city life. As many of this country's historic sites are falling into disrepair and neglect due to budgetary shortfalls or other reasons, it's painful to hear of even one more instance of this happening. Especially when it concerns the destruction of a site that has seen great people pass through it, who have forged a path that MANY have since followed. Ellis Island was preserved as the Gateway to America that it was for so many immigrants. For a number of black Americans from the South, the Maxwell St. Market was their Ellis Island.

I ask that you do all within your power to preserve what's left of this heritage in your town. I'll be visiting someday. :)

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Ron Kraemer,
