Dear Sir,
I am the presenter of 'The Rhythm and Blues Show' on community radio Encounter FM, who broadcast from Victor Harbor in South Australia. I also write several web pages on the Internet including 'Blues News', 'Blues Festivals', 'Blues Links' and 'The R&B Show'. I am also concerned about the environment with a special emphasis on appropriate development.
Along with many of my listeners and viewers, I am very concerned about the destruction of the world famous landmark Blues district Maxwell Street. I request that a Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District be incorporated into the University of Illinois's plans for commercial redevelopment of the Maxwell Street area.
The development if done well, could become a mecca for blues fans and tourists in a similar way to Beale Street in Memphis.
