I am an Australian Blues identity who hosts the "Highway 49" Australian Blues resource webpages. I am also a prominent Blues Program presenter here in Melbourne. I am totally dismayed by the proposed development of the Maxwell Street area. The area has figured greatly in much of the music we play weekly on our many programs here.
Please incorporate a Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District into the University of Illinois's plans for commercial redevelopment of this prominent area. Far too much of the heritage of this music genre has been lost already.
On behalf of all Ausralian Blues Fans - We implore you to take steps to keep this area for future generations.
