Dear Chancellor Broski:

Our corporation has recently become aware of the possibility of demolition of the historic Maxwell Street buildings. I am writing this letter to ask you to reconsider this possible action on the part of the University of Illinois.

My appeal to you comes from three musical business fronts, all in which I am actively involved: first, as Chairman and CEO of Gibson Musical Instruments; second, as a Board Member of the Blues Foundation; and lastly, as a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. Each of these organizations and the people who make them work are interested in providing musicians of our country the means to perpetuate our history and culture in the music realm. Blues music is one of the few forms of music that America can call its own, and we feel that it is important to preserve that history. Maxwell Street is part of that history, and it deserves recognition and respect as a famous geographical city for the growth of Blues music.

Thank you for your consideration to our request, but more importantly for the consideration of preservation of this American heritage.

Sincerely,

Henry E. Juszkiewicz

Chairman and CEO
