Dear Chancellor Broski:
Just a brief message requesting that a Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District be incorporated into the University of Illinois's plans for commercial redevelopment of the Maxwell Street area. We have lost too many important landmarks of historical significance already. It would be a shame to see this birthplace of the Electrified Blues disappear in the name of progress. A Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District would certainly enhance UIC and the city of Chicago and provide visitors a wonderful opportunity to learn more about African American history, culture, and the music that ultimately became rock 'n roll.
