From Delta Blues Museum

John Ruskey <dbmuseum@clarksdale.com>, Date: Mon, 09 Dec 1996

Dear Chancellor:

I hope this letter finds you well.

As curator of the Delta Blues Museum, I am concerned with the preservation of the remaining artifacts and sites related to the history of one of America's greatest artforms, the Delta blues.

Please don't destroy what is left of your important Maxwell Street area. It is irreplaceable, and indeed could be used to enrich the University campus and its adjoining neighborhoods (as has been successfully done in New Orleans, Memphis, and other cities with rich music traditions).

We would like to see the Maxwell Street Historic Preservation District incorporated into The University of Illinois's plans for commercial redevelopment of the Maxwell Street area.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

Sincerely yours,

John Ruskey, Curator, Delta Blues Museum
