Save Maxwell St 'March Against UIC' and Blues Benefit, Sunday February 27

These events are organized by Maxwell Street Bluesman and activist/evangelist Clarence Lil Scotty Scott, with the help of the Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition and the Coalition to Protect Public Housing, to be part of Black History Month.

This march is to show UIC, the City of Chicago, and the world that grassroots people in Chicago are going to fight to get old Maxwell Street back. Maxwell Street is an historic multi-cultural meeting place and the birthplace of urban electrified blues, Chicago's greatest cultural contribution to the world.

Lil Scotty says, "The heritage of Maxwell Street does not belong to UIC! It is not theirs to destroy. It's a living landmark for the entire world to enjoy, especially the low income peoples. The blues on Maxwell Street is the real thing. It brought us together. Let no man take us apart."

PROTEST MARCH: Sunday, Feb 27 at Noon. Starts at Roosevelt and State Street. We will march to Maxwell and Halsted Streets, about a mile away. Speakers and Blues jam to follow if weather permits.

BLUES BENEFIT: Sunday, Feb 27 at 7PM at the Checkerboard Lounge, Martin Luther King Drive and 43th Street. 423 E. 43rd Street, Chicago, Tel: (773) 624-3240
