BLUESMAN BILL WARREN IN THE HOSPITAL

80 year old Blues drummer and singer William (Bill) Warren is in the hospital coping with a bout of pneumonia. Mr. Warren is a long time Chicago blues musicians having played in the Maxwell Street area in the 1950s and was a drummer for Junior Wells. He can be heard playing in Well's band in the famous Hoodoo Man Blues album and singing in the recent Lost American Bluesmen CD which just received an award from Real Blues magazine.

Says Steve Balkin of the Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition, "Last year we saw Bill Warren visiting on Maxwell Street during the several Blues protests there. His smiling friendly presence gave a lot of moral support to the musicians and other protesters who were glad to have this Blues legend in our midst. He seemed to be really enjoying the music."

After a experiencing a stroke last year, Mr. Warren has been residing in a nursing home. Some of his musician buddies, like Jimmie Lee Robinson, have stopped by to visit him. Robinson said, "When I saw him this week at the hospital, he was looking and sounding bad."
